Use Google Sheets to create or update Customers, Tests, and Labs (outsource partners) in your lab. Import one entity at a time from a single sheet tab. For result values, see Entering Test Results in Lab Axiom.
These actions appear in the list ⋮ menu when your role includes the matching import permission. Create import also requires create. Update import also requires update. Built-in Admin includes catalog Sheets. Built-in Manager and User do not. See Managing roles in Lab Axiom.
Create an import template
Do not use a list export as a create template. Export includes whatever columns are visible and is for update (it already has ID and Tenant ID Shard). Create import uses a header-only template.
- Open Customers, Tests, or Labs from Home or the bottom navigation bar.
- Click the ⋮ menu and choose Create Google Sheets Template.
- Sign in with Google when prompted.
- Choose Create New Spreadsheet or Use Existing Spreadsheet. Existing files add a new tab only. The dialog does not overwrite an existing sheet.
- For a new spreadsheet, you can keep Also add Labs, Tests, and Customers tabs so the file includes every catalog tab you can import. Suggested fill order: Labs, then Tests, then Customers.
- Click Create template. Lab Axiom writes one header row per tab and opens the spreadsheet.
The template does not pre-create ID, Tenant ID Shard, Imported, or Imported Status. Create import appends those columns after it creates records.
Create records from a sheet
- Fill one data row per record. Header names must match exactly.
- On the matching list, choose Import … from Google Sheets (for example Import Tests from Google Sheets).
- Select the spreadsheet and the tab you filled.
- Confirm the import. Rows that already have both ID and Tenant ID Shard are skipped (“Already has ID — use update import”).
Successful create rows receive ID and Tenant ID Shard plus Imported and Imported Status. Names are not unique. Duplicate names create duplicate records.
Column contracts (create)
Blank optional cells are omitted so server defaults apply. Contacts, customer test prices, and extra CoA customers stay in the app.
Labs
Required: Name. Optional: Email, Phone, Address. Imported labs are outsource partners, not a second in-house lab.
Customers
Required: Name. Optional: Email, Phone, Address, Pay in Advance (blank defaults to yes), Hide Email and Phone on COA.
Tests
Required: Name. Method and Turn Around are required for leaf tests (non-group rows). Tests is required for group rows. Optional: Lab (exact lab name; blank uses your default in-house lab), Type (must match Lab → Test Types when that catalog is not empty), Group, Rush Enabled, Rush Turn Around (business days when rush is enabled on a leaf test; must be less than Turn Around), Min Sample Size, Min Sample Size UOM, Price, Cost, Detection Type, Specification, Specification Value, Specification Range, Specification Range Value, Unit, Min RL, Max RL, CoA Note.
Spreadsheet Detection Type is Quantitative or Qualitative. That is not the Tests grid RT column or the form label Reporting Type.
Boolean cells: true, TRUE, yes, YES, or 1 are true. false, no, 0, or blank are false, except Pay in Advance blank defaults to true.
Test groups and child names
One Tests sheet is processed in two passes: leaf rows first, then group rows. Child tokens in Tests are semicolon-separated names. If two tests in the same lab share a name, write Name (Method). If a child cannot be resolved, that group row is skipped and is not created as a partial group.
Update existing records
For updates, export the list first so the sheet already has ID and Tenant ID Shard, then choose Update … from Google Sheets.
- Required columns: ID and Tenant ID Shard.
- Optional data columns match the create headers. A missing column leaves the live value. A blank optional cell does not clear the live value.
- Blank Name skips the row (“Name cannot be cleared”).
- On Tests, a present Lab column resolves by exact name. A present Tests column replaces the group child list.
Rows missing ID or Tenant ID Shard are skipped. Use create import for new records.
